 WELCOME BEHS Classmates of 1961

This page is for your bio.  Please sign in and leave a bio about your life since graduation.  We know there's  been a lot of grains of sand pass through the ole hourglass since then, but we'd all like to know a bit about you and your family.  Who knows it might just break the ice for conversation at our upcoming reunion. Also leave a picture or two if you like, that in itself, if not for any other reason, could be cause for recognition at the reunion...

This is going to be a great reunion. I am excited to see you all again.
I have spent the last 45 years raising six children. They have all ended up in very creative occupations. Everything from a CFO of one of Americas' largest candy companies, a published writer, a movie director and one of the top graphic designers in the nation. Life was never dull at our home because of all of their "projects". I worked for years as an interior designer before the church asked me to manage the areas distribution center. It has been a very fulfilling occupation. I have held this position for twenty years. I graduated from the "Y", when I was seven months along with our fifth child. Don, my husband has an engineering degree from USU. He is now retired but has a contractors licence and does custom wood work and granite all over the state. We love to travel, take long power walks and spend time with our 19 grand kids. My favorite memory of Box Elder, is how accepting you all were of me when I moved there.
I felt a wonderful closeness that seemed to be the class personality. Everyone seemed to treat others as equals and friends. Thank you for your kindness!

I  served an LDS mission in France & Belgium for two years and  then spent a couple of years in upstate New York working as a counselor in a treatment ctr. for boys.  When I returned to Utah I began working in the neurodiagnostic field and spent the next 35 years in medicine.  In 1998 I finally found my soul mate and we were married.  He is a retired Salt Lake City Police Officer and within  two years we had left SLC and were living on 20 acres in Idaho, being gentlemen farmers.  I miss the mountains but we are only about 45 minutes South of Sun Valley.  We have a beautiful view of the Sawtooths from our kitchen window.  We have continued our activity in the LDS Church.  Before we were married I served as YW Pres. twice, Stke YW Pres, Ward R.S.Pres. and  at the time we were married I was in a Stke. R.S. Presidency.  Life is good!  I get to be Grandma without having gone through all the trials to get there.

I have a daughter with 1 son and 1 daughter living in Mansfield, TX and a son with 2 sons and a daughter, living in Stansbury Park, UT.   I Joined the Marine Corps. after graduation and served a 4+ yr. tour, including 6mo. at Camp Pendleton, CA.;1 yr. at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, & 2.5 yrs. at MCAS Yuma, AZ.  I worked in electronics for over 40yrs. and was layed off in 2001. I had seen several friends die of various cancers before being able to retire and decided that maybe the layoff was a message, so heeded it. I moved  to East Olympia, WA. in 2003, after living in San Jose, CA. for 23years, and had a home on a private lake with many 80ft. firs - It was like being on vacation every day.  I do some wood work, oil paint, walk, fish, surf the Internet, and visit my grandkids - not as much as I'd like tho.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 65th. reunion, EGAD!! That's hard to believe - unless I listen to my body.  I now live happily in Farr West, UT. with Judy Valentine of our Class in a Senior Mobilehome Park...

After high school graduation I attended Weber State for in journalism. A year later, after encouragement from Max Hamilton, I went to the University of Utah and graduated in 67. Being a devoted fisherman, I must admit that Dixie Brighton was my finest catch of my life. We were blessed with four boys, then two girls and presently have 8 1/2 grandchildren. After working for Hamiltons for two years, I became self employed, purchasing Hyrum Drug in 1969--a 25 year old self-employed pharmacist. We sold our pharmacy to our son Michael after he graduated in pharmacy 3 years ago, but still have a partnership in the Brigham Pharmacy. Not certain as to how long we will keep that interest. We enjoy the freedom to basically do as we please, but find it somewhat difficult to breakaway from bindings of frugality. We have been blissfully married now for over 40 years. My wife is my treasure, my children /grandchildren my jewels.

It's hard to belive that 45 years have passed so quickly.
My wife Joyce and I have been married 41 wonderful years. We have four children and six grandchildren.
I retired from LDS Family Services in April of 2003, after working for 33 years both in Southern California and Ogden Utah. Much of the time I worked in Adoption and placed over 556 children in to wonderful families. I really enjoyed my work but now am really enjoying retirement. I wander how I ever had time to work.
After retiring Joyce and I moved to St George to get away from the snow and cold and really enjoy it here.
In April of 2004 we went on an LDS Mission to Mexico City for eighteen months. Wow what an experience. We were called as LDS Family Services missionaries and were sucessful in helping to set up the first agency in Latin America. We did not learn much Spanish, but really grew to love the wonderful Mexican people.
Since returning we have enjoyed visiting our grandchildren and children in Wisconsin and Washington state and bike riding and hiking in the mountains and trails here in Southern Utah. We volunteer at Tuachan and other attractions here in St George. We also are Ordienance Workers in the St George Temple.
We look forward to the reunion and thank all who have worked so hard to plan it for us.

Hey Classmates, I have been a little slow to get this done...the computer is a scarey little thing...but here goes.  Pat (Evans) and I have lived in Logan, Seattle, San Diego, Salt Lake and Brigham since graduation.  Three boys came along during our schooling. We then added one more boy and two girls on the end.  After school we spent ten years in SLC but each time we came home we had the feeling we wanted to be home again.  We have now been here 27 years.  Pat passed away seven years ago and our family has had some challenges since.  We have been blessed with 24 grandchildren and we feel her influence in all of our lives.  The class of 1961 holds a special place in both of our hearts and we have a love for each of you.  We pray at this time in our lifes journey that we may all be appreciative for all that we have endured and for all of our blessings.  All our love to all of you!

I have lived in Texas for 26 years, 19 of those in San Antonio. I love living in San Antonio. The climate is wonderful, no snow! I am married (third time's the charm) to a wonderful man who added three of the six kids to our family. We have 13 grandchildren and another, probably the last on the way. I serve on the Board of Planned Parenthood here in San Antonio, and work hard to promote women's health issues in our legislature. My youngest son lives in Plain City, so I make it back to Utah about twice a year, sometimes more often. I try to be there in the summer, no snow!! Hope to see everyone in August.

We celebrate 42 years of marriage this year, and actually still like each other! Since Jim graduated from Utah State, we lived in Los Altos California for 13 years (he got his Masters at Stanford there while working for Hewlett-Packard Co.) and then transferred to Spokane Washington for 25 years. He took a medical retirement (Parkinson's Disease) in 2001. His passions include the ends of the world (has been to Antarctica, Beringia and Spitzbergen) and studying the scriptures in their original languages. We moved to Orem Utah at the end of 2005. Janet had the joy of staying home to raise three great daughters who have all married well and given us eight exceptional, beautiful grandchildren. She has worked odd jobs, but mostly enjoys those fun grandchildren, gardening, sewing and traveling with Jim. Her passions are tops of mountains and Israel.

bobhillsphotography.com  Posted 8-16-11. I have many very fond memories of my high school years at Box Elder, unlike the experiences of many adults I talk to. After high school, I served a mission in England, came home,  reenlisted at Utah State, and married Karen Walker of the BE class of 1965. We've been married 45 years (wow). I graduated from Utah State with BFA & MFA degrees with specialties in photography and graphic design. Karen and I have 4 great sons who are all healthy, happy and employed. We also have 11 grandchildren in whom we are very proud, as well. I've spent my career in the field I studied at USU – commercial photography (product, architectural, industrial, food, etc.) and graphic design. Since I didn't choose the most lucrative career on the planet, I've built 3 homes from the ground up in my (spare time?) and taught evening classes at Weber State for about 9 years. I was employed at Browning Arms, and a few other companies before starting my own business in 1980. Karen works as a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor in Salt Lake. I never want to completely retire from doing photography. I'm now spending more time doing landscape and fine-art photography. I've been published in Outdoor Photographer, Popular Photography, LensWork and LensWork Extended, and am represented in a couple of galleries. I thought I was safe, because of age, from ever being called to a bishopic, but I was found three months ago anyway, and am now serving as the 1st counselor in our ward.

See you at the reunion. Pleae don't be offended if I don't recognize the majority of you. I hardly recognize myself in the mirror.

Hello to my fellow classmates. I am now living in Centerville UT with my wife if 49 years come April 20th 2011.  I have two children, Kristy-Holt Pyne.  She is employed by the University of Utah as Events coordinator of the Rice-Eccles football stadium..  This is very nice for me because Carol and I get free tickets to all of Utah's home games.  Tickets are always on 50 yard line. Her Husband, Steve Pyne, is Events Coordinator of the U of U Jon M Huntsman Center.  It is the 15,000 seat arena for Utah Basketball and women's gymnastic meets.  Again more free tickets to basketball games and gymnastics. I retired from Department of Energy in 2001. We stayed in Richland WA until 2 and 1/2 years ago.  Moved to Utah to be closer to family and better health care.  I have Hepatitis C but is in remission.  I also have a son that lives in Vancouver, WA.  He is a parole and probation officer for State of Oregon. He lives in WA because it is cheaper than Oregon and he wants to stay away from the total liberalism of Oregon  We have 5 grand children ranging from 6 to 18 .  All are Brian's offspring. Kristy married a divorced man.  He is a really good fellow and has 3 boys.  When I started my career I didn't realize where it would take methrough the years.. I worked for Utah Division of Wildlife Resources for 11 years. Notwithstanding this, and having both my BS degree in Biology a MS in Environmental Biology,  I worked for Dept. of Defense, Department of Army and Department of Energy.  I somehow ended up with special Civilian Service Medals and citations from Dept. of Army.  One is from a four star general for my contributions in negotiatiating and implementing cleanup agreements of groundwater and hazardous waste both on the Army base and in nearby communities between affected by Army Depot operations. I sucessfully negotiated cleanup agreements beteen States, U.S. EPA and the Army base I was assigned to.  I was also cited by the Secretary of Energy for designing and developing a nuclear waste high radiation sludge sampler for corroding Spent Nuclear Fuel. I spent 6 years managing 2300 meteric tons of Spent Nuclear Fuel.  Although I am now retired I have my own Consulting firm "Rainbow Environmental Restoration"  I have attached a picture of Carol and I from 2009. I look a little bit gaunt because I was undergoing treatment for my Hepatitis C.  I am now in remission. I am looking foreward to 50th reunion. Bob Holt
